I'm replacing a damaged left-rear body panel on a 2001 Disco. I've removed a suitable replacement from a salvage yard truck, and I'm trying to find the correct sealant for the exterior seam where the top of the body panel meets the underside of the drip rail. (I assume LR used the same sealant on the different models.)
I'm planning to use 3M strip caulking in place of the sticky/flexible black sealant (shown in the picture) for the interior seams, but the sealant for the exterior seam is beige/tan and is much harder (though not completely solid) than the black sealant. I would love recommendations for what I should use. Thank you!
3m makes some and I found it at Auto Zone......its gray...comes out and flows well.....dries slightly flexible....hardens as it should in a few days....used it on three rovers now great results......I'll see if I can find a part #
they do call it "body & seam " sealant
Tech manuals have a section on body sealing/sealant recommendations.

It does. I've looked it over and honestly couldn't differentiate among some of the descriptions of where/when the particular product was supposed to be used.
