Default To buy or not to buy?

Hi guys, I’m new to LandRover world. I’ve done a little research on these vehicles and I’ve started looking to purchase one. I’ve found 2001 super clean and rust free with some minor cosmetic issues and a cooling issue with the motor. It has has 117,000 miles on it. The owner is saying it’s loosing fluid and he thinks it’s a freeze plug. When doing my I research I discovered a lot of people having issues with blown head gaskets. I really don’t want to pull the motor after purchasing it and putting a lot more money in it. Any advice on test I could run or some things I need to pay close attention to when looking over the vehicle? It’s a 2001 LandRover Disco 2 with an auto trans and 4.0 Bosch engine with 117000 miles on it. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

If it's a freeze plug, you will clearly be able to see from underneath from each side. There are also 3 more on the back of the block, so any coolant leak not coming from the heads or lower intake would be coming from them.
Head gaskets can be done with the engine in the truck, and is more likely the problem.
But, if you buy a D2, you have to be prepared to work on it at any time...or pay someone else to.

Thanks for the input. Sounds like I might better keep looking.
