Default Camshaft failure

My wife has a 2003 Land Rover Discovery HSE. The engine developed a knock and we took It right in to our local Land Rover dealer. They called us back and said that it has a Camshaft failure. The warranty company wants them to tear the engine down and tell them the cause of the failure and if it's fixable. If they reject the claim we are on the hook for the labor. What causes a camshaft failure anyway?

Hello,
I am about to begin work on a similar project for a client of mine. From what I can tell there will be significant overlap in terms of features.

Read your other thread before you start having the engine torn down, I don't think it is the cam shaft cause your engine start with a broken shaft.
