Default CAN ANYBODY HELP PLEASE?

hi there
Can anybody help please? I have a Defender TD5 110 Hard top 2000. Two days ago I fitted a new stereo to the wiring loom of the previous owner. A fuse blew (under the drivers seat marked HAZ, INT LP / RADIO) . I replaced the fuse and the stereo did not work. I checked the earth with a voltmeter and realised it wasnt 'active', so I took the earth from the rear cabin light (I later realised that this circuit took its live from the ignition) The stereo worked but ...the engine didnt! I had ignition power but the starter motor wasnt engaging. I have checked everything obvious, fuses / relays etc. After carefully studying TD5 electrical circuit diagrams I live wired the starter motor and later, the output of the starter motor relay. The engine fired but after 5 seconds seemed to run out of fuel. My best guess is that I have damaged the ECM that controls most things because that would explain both problems- ignition and fuel. Or maybe the ignition is broken. I dont know! Has anybody got any ideas, suggestions, advice as to what the problem is or as to what I can do. I would greatly appreciate any help Steve

Sorry, I wish I could help, but I have little experience with that sort of electrical issue.
Hope you work it out.
Mike
