Can you put an SRT8 6.1L HEMI on a 1997 Land Rover Discovery 1 SE?

Extra weight in front end, space for everything, tranny won't keep up, new ECU system, air bags part of that?, and the list goes on. Such an adventure would require not only mechanical skills, but welding, fabrication, electrical and electronics, etc. You'll end up with a hot rod Rover that can go fast in a straight line, but drops a lot of off road capability and road stability. And have spent enough money to buy a couple of used Disco's.
I have a 454 4 WD Suburban at the office. Pulls boats pretty good, not so good in mud, sand, etc. 6-8 mpg when towing.
That said, there seems like there was a post about putting a super charger for a Buick engine on a while back.....

Its feasible. Is it financially practical. No. Stand alone engine management, gonna need to have manual trans with upgradeed clutch with a custom adaptor plate, rebuilt with much stonger components, same for transfer case and diff, uprated axles. Massively uprated suspension to carry extra weight of that monster 6.1L as opposed to the 3.9L thas currently in it. Brake upgrade (stupid to upgrade your engine and not your brakes). Alot of custom welding, mounts, wiring. All round general pain in the ***.
It'll be cheaper to by a wrangler with a blown engine and drop an srt8 in there. Not that im advocating the use of jeeps on a land rover forum. just saying.

Just saying thanks to those who replied! I have an uncle who has a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8, I drove it and it was pretty sweet!
Yeah, I was thinking those were going to be some of the kinks to put it on. I wasn't thinking of doing it but maybe someone actually wanted to go through that much money and pain to put a motor like that.

It can be done, but you will need to do some homework to get it done. You should have the transmission that was with the engine for a easier swap. Okay, the 392 (6.1) is from the LX chassis, same as what I have in my Mag. Since the new LY chassis come with a manual transmission, Mopar and others should have the kit ready to go...but it will definitely cost some serious bread. You can mate a Viper T-56, but again...bread. I wanted to do this conversion also, but simply upgrading the trans computer (Mopar), new stall converter and using my Diablo negates the need for a manual...it is consistent fast that way.

Good luck!
