Default Cannot read error codes...

Hi all.
My proven good generic OBDII reader works well for General Motors vehicles and spits nothing on a 2000 Disco.
Does it take a special/different reader/protocol ?
Thanks.

But it won't talk to some of the six other dedicated computers on the truck. You should get O2 info, coolant temp, intake air temp, and lots of other fun stuff. Are you getting anything? Does your reader power up? Inside the truck fuse 20 runs the reader socket.

Thanks.
Yes, the error code reader (cheap and simple, not a full scanner) does power up, does its own self test sequence and ends displaying no errors; and the MIL lamp is lit and when I revdup the engine to 3Krpm, it flashed for a while and back to steady on.

Does it mean that going to a non-dealer repair shop I may not get the other dedicated compfusers readings either ?
-----> Would the Ultragauge report error codes from those extra computers ?

The humble gadged I have is attached.

Ultra Gauge just reads the basics, but the real advantage is the real time data monitoring. Your ECU could be bad, but stop at most auto parts stores and they will normally read codes for free. Some states and home offices prohibit reset or clearing of codes. Some stores even loan readers (O'Rielly near me does).

All these basic readers won't see the data from the other computers, a different type of scanner is required (advanced shop or dealer, get price for diagnostic check first).
