Default Can't get out of Park?

Goodmorning, Matt here.

1998 Discovery Series I

Can't get the transmission out of park?

- Have applied brake pedal and emergency brake, shifter won't budge.
- Noticed that brake lights do not activate when pedal is pressed.
- Checked all fuses.... they are good.
- Checked fluid level.... good.

I am thinking that the pedal switch/interlock may have gone bad?

Any suggestions?

Thank you,
Matt

You need a new brake switch, easy to replace and cheap to buy, about $25.

Mike,

Yep I got that from other threads after I posted mine.

Just got back from purchasing the switch and have been trying to access the area where the switch is or I think it is.

It appears I need to remove the cover that the computer plug is integrated into to access the switches. Problem is, I can't really see or feel how to get to the switches or get the cover off?

I would sure appreciate some pointers on finding, accessing and replacing the switch?

Standing by.... and thank you for your help.

Matt

Mike,

Got the switches swapped out. Just had to be a bit forceful with the retainer clips on the cover to get them out. Everything works fine, brake lights and getting out of park.

Great forum.... I really appreciate the response and willingness to advise.

Thanks,
Matt
