Chage Your Oil!

Chage Your Oil!
I just pulled down a 2000 4.0l that lost oil pressure and tossed a rod at 101k miles. I can honestly say that I have never seen that much sludge in an engine with that few miles with the exception my grandfathers Olds that he religeously put Quaker State in every 4000 miles, but that is just what came of using junk oil. Aperently it just got so plugged up it couldn't get oil through the pick up screen any more. I am assuming this came about because of either low quality oil or infrequent oil changes, both of which are preventable problems.

That sucks because I just picked up a 2000 disco with 120,600 on her. on the up note I have never seen such clean oil when I pull the dip stick even after 100 miles of driving still CLEAR!! the only negative I have is the dip stick is light brown on the dip stick don't know what that means???

The other guys who know more about LRs than I do may have some words of wisdom on this topic, but a little "brown stuff" on the end of the dip stick wouldn't scare me. I have the heads and pan off of a 98k engine that is the replacement right now, and it has a light layer of varnish on everything but nuthing that would hurt operation.

@IDAHODISCO
that brown stuff is nothing dude. If you have a clean oil after 120K you should go change it before it gets dirty. So you will have no problem for another 120K.
@TS
Too bad for you. But I guess you should clean your engine before changing oil.
