Cleaning Under the Hood
I just bought a used 2002 Disco II with 150K miles. The guy who sold it to me told me there was a front crankshaft seal leak and a PAS leak ( not sure if it is the pump or hoses). There is oil and PS fluid everywhere in the engine compartment.
My question to you all is what is the best way to attack this sludge? I don't want to cause additional engine issues by using a corrosive cleaner but this thing needs more than a gentle hose down. Is there anything I should avoid, be aware of or watch for? There are a lot more electrical components on this vehicle and I already know how expensive they can be to repair (we own an '03 Disco already).

DIY car wash, use their engine degreaser but NOT the high pressure wash.
You can also use Simple Green, Krud Cutter, etc., spray it on, drive to the car wash and rinse off.
I use stuff from Costco, it has enzymes in it that eat oil and grease.
