Default Cost to own question

I'm thinking of getting a LR, but was wondering how parts, repairs compare to other vehicles. I've had a Chevy Blazer and GMC Sonoma and also a Dodge Durango and Ford Freestyle.
We're planning on getting rid of the Freestyle and getting a circa 2001-02 LR Discovery.
I'm pretty handy, I do most of the work on my vehicles myself. I did have a shop put a rebuilt tranny in the Blazer, but I pulled the tranny out of the Durango (to change the filter-poor design!) myself.

Thanks a bunch,
Patrick

A little further: I've read some reviews of LR's and have seen that there may be problems with engine seals/gaskets failing. Has anyone had this trouble? I know LR has changed ownership a few times in the last several years and thus has had different sources for motors, are there any certain years that are better or worse for problems?
Thanks for any info,
Patrick

All Disco's have the same Buick engine, just stroked.
