The hub socket is big, but not that big I dont think.
AutoZone rents hub sockets.
The DI takes a 2 1/6".

The one from AutoZone is free, you pay for it under the rental terms and you get your money back once you return it.
Thats what I'd do.
If you can find out what size it is online then you know what size to rent, its a pretty standard size.

Yeah these guys at the "big box" automotive stores are literally no help at all. They just say GEEZ THAT'S A BIGUN! (best redneck impression I can muster) I found one from Rovers North that is like 25 bucks and it's right up the road so..... Also I meant to ask is there anything else I should do whilst I am in there?I am going to buy a whole new axle from the boneyard so I can rebuild it a bit at a time and it will still be all new when I install it.

The only other thing you can do is replace the axle oil seal, there is nothing else to do on a DII.
On a DI you'd have to repack the wheel bearings and replace the hub seals.

I think you're confusing the D1 hub nut socket with the DII stub axle socket, two different beasts. The D1 and DII have entirely different hubs.
The DII axle stake nut is 32mm (or 1 1/4") IIRC. Use a 6pt socket if you can.

Well the CV came with a new nut on the end and that is about 1 1/4"

Also to everyone else = The CV has a little slop in it? if I hold the shaft vertical to the ground , I can wiggle the metal shaft a bit?

What size are the external torx bits on the back of the caliper mount?? Any one know?? Craftsman makes a new type of socket that will do it but I want to know the size? Bigger than 3/4" that is the biggest size I have in the particular set.
