Default Cylinder #3 Low Compression

Hello

New to the forum so thank you in advance for all your replies. I have a 2001 Land Rover Discovery II with 118000 miles and the SES light started flashing. I recently put new coil pack, magnecor wires and champion plugs, had good spark. Ran DTC's it showed misfire on #3. I ran compression test at home got low compression on #3.

I took it in to local land rover only shop and they did the same, ran DTC's and did a compression test on #3, noted 50psi. Leak down test showed that exhaust was coming out of the oil filler indicating worn rings. He said they could tear it apart and put new rings on but wouldn't be guaranteed and expensive with all the machining, basically needed new motor.

Honestly what are my options and cost...be gentle? Scrap? For sale Mechanic special?

Thank you again!

Ryan
