Dealer won't service older vehicles
So, just bought and '06 LR3, and am encountering several software issues.. from researching numerous threads on this forum and elsewhere, seems LR issued some patches/updates to address my issues. I contacted my local LR dealer in New Orleans and was informed that they won't service anything older than 2 years old! they referred me to an independent, whom, after being contacted, informed me that he didn't have the hardware to deal with LR software/computer issues.. this was repeated by several other independents.
So, I'm between a rock and a hard place.. cannot believe any brand being sold anywhere can refuse to service one of their products after only 2 years.. this seems unbelievable to me.
What should I do? Any guidance/perspective would be greatly appreciated.. As noted, I live in New Orleans, LA. Thanks in advance.

Two years is bizarre. Ask to talk to the GM or maybe the (Centre Manager) and get some real answers. Tell him some moron said they don't work on vehicles older than two years. They probably don't have the computer updates, I mean it is Land Rover after all.
Once cars pass a certain age or mileage point (which varies a bit for every model), dealers fear that something can naturally break during their service time.
Imagine taking in a Disco 2 for a head gasket job. Dealership fixes it. You get the Disco back and the CPS sensor dies in the lot. Then one of the door locks fails. You push it back into the service bay.
Sometimes, customers will blame the dealership for those additional failures.
So dealerships simply stop taking older vehicles for service unless the customer also has newer vehicles and a reputation with the dealership.
Older vehicles are simply not compatible with new car dealers. Old car owners must have a different mindset to survive without dealer help.

No doubt: thanks for the perspective, and it definitely makes sense, but frustrating, nonetheless.. I generally would never consider the dealer as an option on an older vehicle.. much prefer a good, sympathetic independent, but.. when it comes to software, it seems the independents that are my 'go to' guys all point me to the dealer. they say they don't have reasonable access to the equipment or the LR updates... the dealer in New Orleans recommended I contact the Baton Rouge dealerships, which is less than an optimal solution for me... so, really in a quandary as to how to resolve this.
That's insane, won't work on vehicles that are actually still in warranty but older than 2yrs WTF???
Land Rover in the US are truly appalling, not much better in the rest of the world either but seem to be worse in the states.
There has to be an independent that can do it for you???

Buy yourself a gap tool do your own updates. Probably cheaper. Never heard of a dealership saying no to a vehicle that is over two years old. Since most come with a 5 year warranty now.
What dealership was it?

Armyrover: The dealer is New Orleans Land Rover. I even called back and spoke with another service manager who confirmed that they would not work on my vehicle, and suggested I try another dealer in Baton Rouge!
I would love to do it myself; I'm somewhat handy, but no experience with software issues other than pulling OBD codes..any recommendations on a gap tool and where I could access thee software updates/patches?
Thanks.

Forgive me if I ever said anything positive or nice about a LR dealer. I explained my situation to the nearest dealer to me over the phone, “sure bring it in we can take care of it”, 2 weeks later after no response from them when I call to see what’s up I get “we don’t work on vehicles that old”. WTF. No wonder I’ve always avoided dealers of any make.
That’s LR Virginia Beach(A-HOLES) for reference.

Land Rover dealers in the states are a joke.
I stopped by Atlanta area stealerships just to kill time and check out the new Rovers. When asked by the salesman what car do I drive, I always proudly point to my Disco 2. They then tell me how I have a nice looking Jeep.
Really? FOH dude...
