Default California Smog issues update.

Hi Guys.
Ok so here we are, a smog retest in the morning, It took me some time due to working 12+ hour shifts but we now have :-
New cap rotor and wires.
8 New Bosch spark plugs
Fresh Fuel with Octane booster.
Wife booked to take it in tomorrow morning!

If it fails, it looks like new sensors and cats?

Hmmm I need it to pass !

Further updates coming soon.

Thanks

John

What plugs are you running? Also drop your oil and filter then put in a quarter tank of fuel and run a few bottles of ethenal in the tank. That ethenal will burn hotter and take out those carbons. You shouldn't need cats or o2 sensors if it's not throwing codes. I bet your truck has some miles like the rest of us. The ethenal treatment will do wonders to pass your truck. Make sure your running copper plugs. Ngk's seem to be the best. It just sounds like you have a carbon build up that you need to burn out.

After changing the oil fill up to a 1/4 tank put in the ethenal drive in a hilly area to put a load on the truck. Drive about 50 miles then take it to the smog shop DO NoT turn it off. Ask to smog and you should pass.

Those cats are over priced, you can have universals welded in for like $150 each.

Do the universals....if you can find a shop to do it. Most of the shops around CA have the Magnaflow ones and an alternative. It does sound more of your cats not burning off unspent fuel. Have you pulled off the y-pipe to see the condition of them?

I had a spec Miata awhile back. Before I made any upgrades, it was up for smog. It passed, but was on the borderline of passing, high HC's....glad as usual. Weeks later, I pulled off the entire exhaust system. I found that the CAT had a big gaping hole in the center of the brick.....I always wondered how long it was like that....and wonder how the heck it passed?!?!?! From experience, it looked like the PO used a heavy amount of some type of fuel cleaner.....
