Default Engine missing/bogging while driving at 2000rpm!?!

1998 land rover discovery v8

engine misses like crazy around 2000rpm and wont let me go over 60... its intermittent..... then all of a sudden truck drives fine... then does it again and if i try to floor it, it just misses and slows down. idles fine and gets up to 50 fine if i go really light on the gas pedal....anything more than that then it misses and bogs out... im thinking maybe fuel pump/ distributor, or maybe bad gas since it sat for 2 years in a garage??? i just put new gas in it and maybe it stirred it up a bit im not sure.. if anyone else has had a similar problem let me know
thanks alot

When was the last time you changed your air filter. I had the same problem on my 99 D2 with the check engine light coming on and ODB2 fault codes for bad O2 sensors. Turned out to be a thoroughly clogged mass air flow sensor unit, due to using a K&N filter with oiled element in dusty MT roads. My mechanic replaced the clogged airflow sensor, but I'd give it a thorough cleaning if it happened again. No need to replace the O2 sensors either, that was nice. Inspect your air filter and air flow sensor, hopefully you'll find them clogged and it will be a cheap fix.
