looking to get another rover of some sort. most trucks I'm looking at are around 170K to 180K. what sort of life expectancy have you come to expect from the aluminum V8 in rovers. My last had approx. 165K and going strong, prior to being totaled.

Mine has just shy of 200,000 miles on it and still going strong.
I think you can expect 250k at least.

 

hmmm..interesting...I hope so, I've got around 75k now and sure hope she keeps on ticking for a long long time.

in my searches, I haven't seem too many trucks with more than 200K, one that just died at 208K.
I think most of us get to a point where we're just fixing what breaks, and that is probably why engines ultimately fail, rather than doing complete PM.

Also, trucks I'm looking at are 3rd and 4th owner trucks, so you just can't tell. I don't however have the means to "catch up" on all the PM that may or may not have been skipped, at least until summertime. Hmmmmmm.

Anyone have input on what is most likely to fail between 150K and 180K?
I've seen two trucks with new water pumps, and one with whine on startup, so I'm guessing that could be an issue, and of course with those whose waterpumps were replaced, how long did the previous owner go on the failing pump? Hmmmmmmm.
