First Time Buyer Needs Help
I'm looking at getting a Land Rover but my price range is about $3500. I've found some decent looking deals but I don't know anything about Land Rovers so I don't know how good the deals really are. If anyone can help answer some questions that would be a huge help.
Whats the average life in miles of a Land Rover?
Is there any major maintenance that needs to take place at a specific time (or that tends to occur at a specific mileage) clutch, transmission etc.?
Are they easy to fix on your own or do you need to take them to the dealership or a shop?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi there and welcome,
I am new toLand Rover ownership so I am sure there are many on here who know lots more than me, but here is what I know. For 3500.00 you should be able to get a mid nineties Discovery. Just make sure it has been well taken care of. I looked at many Land Rovers before I bought mine. It is amazing what some people refer to as "excellent" condition. Also, in my opinion, you either need to be a good mechanic, a superb electrical troubleshooter, and have a garage stocked with many tools,or have some fairly deep pockets to own a Land Rover. (Oh, and it doesn't hurt to have a second vehicle). While I was searching for my first Rover, I learned that they all seem to have certain issues such as leaking, power steering problems, electrical problems, but the engines/transmissions/4wd seem to be fairly bullet-proof. Just make sure it has been taken care of. That being said, Iam very happy with my Land Rover. I hope that helps you.

A 97 or 98 Disco 1 will fit your price range.
Yes, as with all vehicles there is a major service , tube up, fluids and stuff, every 30,000 of less as they get older.
