Freelander 2005 with Noisy Tires
We've had our Freelander for 1 year. It came with almost new Mich Synchrone 4 by 4 tires. They are very noisy (especially at around 70 mph) and the droning on the freeway is a major pain in the backside
. The LR dealer
says this is because they are 'chipped' and tells me that replacing them will deliver quiet motoring
. They don't look too bad to me, though I can see a few cracks that he pointed out. Problem is they still have loads of tread so I don't want to throw them away only to find new ones the same. Are these tires generally noisy? Should I change them and if so is there a better, quieter option? We use the SUV almost entirely on-road. Thanks in advance!

I assume you've tried rotating them? On my Blazer, whenver the A/T tires start to wear a bit in the front, the road noise is very excessive. A quick rotation to get those tires in the back not only evens the wear out, but the smooth treads up front kills the road noise for another few thousand miles
