Freelander won't start!
I have a 2002 Land Rover Freelander with 47,000 miles. It suddenly has starting issues. My wife went to the grocery store locally and as she applied the brake, it shut down. I went over to check the poblem. It was unresponsive. Dashboard lights would not light up, would not fire, click or do anything. However, headlights, radio, power windows, etc, all worked fine. After a few minutes of trying, all of a sudden dashboard lights came on and it started. I drove it home and parked. I then killed and and successfully restarted it a half dozen times. I then pumped the brake pedal and it would not start and has not started since. Brake fluid resivoir is full. This is the second time it has done this. Any ideas? I am desparate.
This is a follow-up. I called a Land Rover dealership and explained the problem. They were not much help. The guy said it might be a dead cell in the battery or a crank sensor. He said start with the battery. I took old battery out and had tested. Battery was discharged a little but tested ok. I had it charged and put it back in. It cranked! Ok....I then decide maybe it is the battery although I could not figure out why the dashboard lights would not come on when it would not crank. I went and bought a brand new battery and put in. It cranked! Wow.....must have it fixed. But wait....after cranking it for about five times, it quit again and has not cranked since, won't turn over, won't click....nothing. I checked every connection and fuse I could think of. I looked for shorted wires. I cleaned cables.....still nothing.....where do I go from here?
