Default Fuel pump issues

My land rover discovery 2 won't start. The fuel pump went out so we bought new one put it in and it started right up. It ran for maybe 20 miles and shut off and wouldn't start. We put new hoses on it and it started again ran for a couple miles shut off again, I have owned it for 5 months now and it has ran a total of three weeks and I have been trying to figure out why it will not start. I recently took it to a mechanic he had it for 4 days and can't figure out why it won't start, all he can say is it's the computer. Please help I don't know what else to do, if I can't get this going I'm going to blow it up. So frustrated. Help

The car simply shuts down? Any symptoms?

What year and mileage?

It's a 2000 land rover discovery 2 , it won't turn over, it starts if I prime it, but only runs for a couple seconds then dies, I try to start it again and it won't start. It has 140,000 miles on it.

What do you mean by 'prime it'?

Also, you might want to put this question in the D2 section of the forum.

that sound like a bad maf sensor. Try getting it scan. The bad maf sensor code is p1884.

OK thank you I will have that checked, we have had it on a diagnostic machine twice and no codes have came up but I will try again.

If you are sure the fuel pump is working it is going to be something simple, like the crank position sensor or the MAF. Honestly, it sounds like a failing crank sensor to me. One day it just won't start at all if the crank sensor is failing.

If I understand, the car would not start until you replaced the fuel pump then it started but would not run properly after that(or stay running and now it won't start as if it has no fuel).

did you replace with a new fuel pump? Did you install a new fuel pump ring seal?

I'm guessing you still have fuel pressure issues. I would put a fuel pressure gauge on the rail and check that first. You can't see it but it is under and behind the upper intake at the firewall, more towards driver side.

check eBay for a pic of the fuel rail and that will show you where the valve is.

if that checks out, as Charlie said maybe CPS, but I dont think you would have spark if that's the case.

When we put the new fuel pump in it started right up and ran for about 20 miles then died and we haven't gotten it to start since. I'm going to check the CPS and ask my husband if he put a new ring on it also when he changed the fuel pump. Thank you.
