Hi Simonbradbury, I’m trying to do the same with relays, but struggling to get any motors to work. Can you share how you wired these up please? Thanks Jason
Hi gents
In case it helps - With extensive help from a friend investigating options, we eventually binned the whole ecu too, as nothing we tried could get the relays within the ecu to respond, and there are just too many unknowns in terms of bus wiring.
We just used the green connector, which connected all the power wires going to the various motors with the ecu. We tested and connected the pairs of motor wires to a bank of five 20 amp reversing window switches (ebay uk item 264437288625 £7.95 for 4), set into a piece of 3mm black plastic, replacing the original switch pack set into the seat trim. I’ll try to attach photos here later. No relays required, just a pos and neg connection to the switch bank via a 20amp fuse.
I have retained 5 controls – seat fwd/ back, back rest fwd back (the two horizontal switches at the front) and then leg bolster height, seat height and head rest height. Some of those could be set with temp wiring and switching while the seat is out and left alone to reduce the wiring and switches required (cutting the holes for the switches can be tricky).
One day I’ll have another look at whether I can get the seats to heat up. If anyone has had success on that front please let us know!
I was very happy with the final result but it’s been a long journey. Good luck!
Thanks, this is a great update, with this information and the details from @Simonbradbury we should have a good chance of having these seats working as they should. Cheers guys 👍
Interested to find out if anything more has been found out about this. I just bought some seats from a 2017 range rover evoque. But after a bit of searching it seems it may be more difficult than i thought. Going to have a look at mine this weekend so i will report back

hi.Just bought 2010 rr sport seats myself and they are going into a 1984 g wagon.
ive started with the pass seat and here are my findings.
seat motors.
cut the brown and black wires behind the green plug on the multi plug connector (front centre under seat).
brown is +12 volts via fuse to be installed.
black is ground.
because there is a diode (current flowing one way only) built into switch pcb you will need to reverse polarity of x4 seat motors.
recline motor pink and brown wires. Cut both of these and connect pink to brown and brown to pink.
the recline motor is inaccessible without hardship so cut wires in seat base.there is a plug connector and you can reverse them here.
seat base rear height motor is white and black/ purple.as previous cut both wires and reconnect white to black/purple and black/ purple to white.
seat base front height motor , black and red wires.
repeat cut and join procedure here and finally foward and back motor blue and purple wires.again cut and join wires blue to purple and purple to blue.
all work is carried out under seat base.
would recommend using soldering iron and heat shrink as oppose to terminal connectors.
seat occupancy switch.
this is built into seat base and when seat is occupied the resistance is 30 ohms.
Seat side airbag is in yellow sheath.
cut these one at a time not 2 together.(if not req).
seat heaters.
im still looking for wiring diagram for these to progress.
it’s my understanding the base and the seat back elements are in series with thermal switch in seat back.perhaps someone here has wiring diagram.
Mercedes info.
I have fitted m class seat belts to these seats as I am grafting a m class into my 1984 g wagon.
they fit using the rr bolts.the srs seat belt tensioners are fitted to the seat belt buckle on the rr but on the seatbelt inertia on the Mercedes m.
remove the rr seat belt buckle and replace with m class buckle. This leaves all the m class wiring correct.
will be tackling the rr drivers power and heat seat and
rear seats heat only next weekend.
the rr drivers seat has lumbar and memory(not utilising memory)so will post findings then.

hi again.
I went at the drivers seat today and found the following.
The drivers seat has a memory and upon closer inspection I found.
1 The memory ecu under seat must communicate with the main car ecu as I couldn’t get response in any shape or form.I bought the seats as fully operational and the salvage yard has great feedback so am sure they work 100%.
2 . The wires that run out of the seat switch are not able to carry current direct to seat motors as too light)they are switched through relay in memory ecu)and so I cannot repeat the same as I done previous with the pass seat.
So here is my solution.
Remove memory ecu and drivers seat switch.
As previously mentioned I am using a m class Mercedes as a donor car for my g wagon so I Used the m class drivers seat switch.Incase your wondering why I didn’t use m class seats the rear seat is too wide because of protruding wheel arches in the g wagon and the rr seats will fit fine .You can pick up a year 2000 m class drivers seat switch and plug in connector for £30 on eBay.
if you can also get the seat trim that holds the switch in place better again as this completes the install.
So to the install.
Cut back any wiring not req ie airbag etc and remove memory ecu and connectors.
unlike the pass seat the drivers seat motors have 4 wires , 2 heavy and 2 light.
cut back light wires and tape.these are not req as they go to the memory sensors on each motor.
the colours of the motor wires you will be using are,
foward/ back motor red and yellow
recline orange and pink
seat base front up/down blue and brown/yellow
seat base rear up/down white and yellow.
If you choose to install m class seat switch here then read on. If not you will need a multi meter or diagram to work out your switch contacts.
Any switch that feeds the motors directly and not via relay or module should suffice.
The 2000 Mercedes 163 m class switch has 10 heavy wires going to it.
white and dark brown or +12 volt and ground respectively.
I recommend bringing the +12 volts through relay and fusing.
That leaves 4 pair of switch’s.
light brown and pink goes to red and yellow respectively on foward/ back motor.
brown and grey goes to orange and pink respectively on recline motor.
orange and light blue goes to blue and brown/yellow respectively on front base height motor.
grey and green goes to white and yellow respectively of rear base height motor.
That’s the motors done.
electric lumbar now.
It is not necessary to access the lumbar pump.
all the connections can be made under the seat base.
The lumbar switch has5 connections.
the x2 black are grounds, the white/red is +12 volts and will need fusing.
the blue and brown/yellow wires operate the lumbar pump in and out motion.
Still didn’t get a chance to suss out seat heater wiring.
kind regards

Forgot to mention in previous posts I am a hobby mechanic/ auto electrician and accept no responsibility for wiring solutions previously documented

Hey tonymac so it sounds like the Sport seats are different to the ones i have. On the evoque seats i have there is no memory function on the seats them selves so i followed the wires from the switch panel and could wire directly to the switch panel through the main plug. On the passenger seat There was 2 thicker black wires -ve and a red and grey +ve that powered up the whole range of movement this was on the larger plug, apart from the lumber support. It was similar on the drivers side. Solid yellow for the positive and a yellow and black for the negative. I think i have been lucky compared to what you have had to do. I still need to find out how to power up the lumbar support. I have found a few different wiring diagrams but none for the 2017 evoque. I have found a few for the range rover sport while i have been searching if it will help you.
for the heated seats i have not started looking at them yet, i cant find the right wiring diagram to figure out which wires are which, so i might have to strip down the chairs a bit so i can find out which are the heating element wires. I was thinking as you say the heating element is in series so should be able to find that with a continuity test. I have identified 2 wires to a plug with nothing else going to it that have potential, originally i thought this plug was the airbag, so i am a bit weary and want to double check that before i start putting power to it. Weather i could use the original evoque buttons to wire to I'm not sure yet. I should get chance to get back on them next week so hopefully i can find out more This is for the 2013 evoque so the wiring colours are different but i think the wiring is similar
I am still trying to work out how the circuit works. Possibly i need the switches
Well i think i got lucky, on my seats there is no memory function on the actual seats them selves, weather this was a set where they didnt have this option or the evoque uses a different way to do this i don't know.
i followed the wires from the switch panel and took the main larger wires and powered them up. 2 x black were the negative and a red/grey for the power and i got full movement of the passenger seat. The drivers seat was solid yellow for the positive and a yellow/black for the negative, these were on the larger plug under the seat. I havent got the lumbar function working yet i will have another look next week i think.
I've had no luck with the heating yet. There is a set of 2 wires to a plug on there own with continuity which could be them, but i will have to investigate more. As far as my research says i agree the elements are wired in series and i think the resistance is 10ohms as found from another thread.
i have a few wiring diagrams from searching so maybe some of these could help someone a bit more.
this is one for the range rover sport heated seat part and one for the lumbar. Maybe it could help. I have more so message me if needed.
i have a few other wiring diagrams i have found through searching, just not the ones for my seat ha.
Hi Jon tolley
Hope you getting on well with seats.
If your lumbar switch has 5 wires 2 of these are ground ( normally black)x1 is fused switch live power( mine is white and brown.
The remaining 2 will be the lumbar pump inflate/ deflate wires.
like you I can’t find wiring diagram for my 2010 l320 seats.
I bought a workshop manual but the wire colours are different.
The wires on my front seat heaters are white and yellow x2 , brown,x1 and bluex1.4 in total.
kind regards
tony
Trying to retro fit 2013 RR sport Autobiography seats in crafter.
Hi new to the group. I've managed to get all motors working Via 3 way switches. And bolster inflate deflate. And squab cooling fan to work. But I am struggling to get the lumbar to inflate there are 4 wires non6 of which seem to be an earth.any help greatly appreciated. Steve
