I have a light that looks like a cog with a s in the middle of it the color is green any hints I dont have the owners manual

If this us under the tachometer just to the right it is
gearbox manual/ sport mode warning lamp.
I have no idea what that means its just what
the software I have said.

 

I also have a 2000 Discovery II. The light you are talking about is the sport mode. To turn it off, click the mode button. The switch is located in the center console. I use the sport mode when on a steep incline on the highway. It's good for when you need extra power and your car is "between" gears. Ya know, step on the gas...and you feel the downshift...and when you pass the 18 wheeler it shiftsback up. When in sport mode the car will just rev higher (I was told an additional 500 RPM) to provide extra power. Hope this helps. . .
