I have a 93 Disco L reg.

When I went to get in it the other day the engine would not start.

Then there was a sound of shorting and a burning sound under the hand brake lever. I have been told that if one of the earths has a bad connection it travels along the hand brake cable.

After the burning smell the engine started. But as I let off the hand brake the lever popped back up.

At first i could not move the car but after a lot of time the car now drives OK, but still the problem with the hand brake. i.e it still pops up and the hand brake cannot be put on.

My question is, is it possible that a short has burnt out the handbrake cable?

I have ben told that because I put the handbrake on too hard its locked the Drum Brake and with driving it should go back.
