HEAD GASKET??? HELP!!!
I recently purchased my second Discovery II. The current disco is a 2000 with 67K miles in pretty good shape. While driving home a few weeks ago the disco shut off when I was pulling into my driveway. I looked at the dash and noticed the temp. was maxed on the motor(wish I noticed this prior). No coolant was under the car, so as my heart started to race in fear of a head gasket I pulled the dip stick. Results were milky oil and the oil level being very high due to the increase in fluids. I pulled the motor apart only to find head gaskets that look like new as well as the intake gasket! I had two shops check them out for other opinions and they said it they look fine/new.
Heads are being checked now by a local machine shop. I don't know what else to do, and in fear of the block being cracked but I can't see anything. Any Ideas or suggestions?

Hey, Arizona there is a 2000 being parted out here in Denver, might want to consider a good used block if you do need to replace yours.
Get back to me if you need any info.

Thanks Mike,
I actually had to replace the block abouta year ago now. I blew a gasket and dropped a sleave. The good news though was the Land Rover dealership went out of their way and tracked down a used engine block from a 2005 disco 2 with under 4000 miles on it. New it would have been well over 10k, but they bought it for me and installed it for under 5,500. Nice to have a new engine, but i think eventually ill need a head rebuild as it seems like its starting to develope the dreaded disel tick of a crappy lifer/valve. [:'(]

Ya, if I would have looked at the date of your first post I would have realized that.
So how do you like the 4.6, nice change wasn't it.
Let me know when you want to come up to Gods country for a couple cool days in the Colorado trails?
I lived in the Phoenix are for 12 years, remember the heat well.

Mike,
It was a very nice change indeed. I was however, a little surprised when the actuall dealership offered to do the mostercar to my Disco and still include a year warrenty with my engine. Where arround the Pheonix area did you live? I lived in Utah before being stationed here and I miss the snow!
