Default Help! Clunk under truck.

When driving 30-40 mph I hear a clunk sound under the vehicle. I speed up to 30-40 mph and take my foot off the pedal, as the vehicle starts to decrease in speed I hear a clunk under the vehicle. What is that? some told me it could be the drive shaft, is this true? Please keep in mind that I am not a mechanic. Is this something serious and inexpensive to fix or should I just not buy the vehicle. (99 Disco II)
Thanks

well when we had our 2001 disco II as we slowed down there was a large clunk coming from underneath, it sounded serious at the time but there was no sight of any damage, malfunctions etc, only time it happend aswell.

btw your forum name Airwolf1, its quite a coincidence that you have that as when i play online games or anything i allways have my name as Airwolf1. sorry id just thought id explain as its strange as we both have a interest in Airwolf, and rovers

A good bet is that you have a u-joint failing in the front driveshaft. At one end of this shaft-- is what is called a Carden joint that houses two u-joints. Have it checked out now, as they are known to fail completely and make a mess of things underneath (translating to $$$$ to repair).
