Clunk Clunk What sound am I?
Got my disco from Maryland safely drove across the united states with breaks in Oxford Mississippi and Dallas texas.
Only issue other than the gas mileage in the city (LOL) is the front flange on the transfer case seems to have some play.
SOme of this may be the known defective fron ujoints.
WHen adding throttle or letting off in the switch from acceleration to drag in the driveline there is a clunk mabye related to this.
Any ideas would be good, i checked the fluid its dirty but full and shall be changed this week.
I'll post pics of my trip shortly.

These transfer cases develop a clunk quite often. It is due to excessive play between the drive gear and driven gear. You could either have it rebuilt(chances are it will still clunk afterward), or you could spring for a new unit. Our shop just did two last month.
You can change the fluid out. It may not break right away, but it will only get worse over time. This can also result in the u-joints getting hammered, as well. I have seen these from mild to severe clunking, so you should have time to figure out your plan of action.
First, have you had the 2 u-joints in the double cardon rebuilt, if not do that ASAP.
How many miles on your truck and when was the tranny last serviced, how often do you get your 2 drive shafts serviced/greased?

Just bought it so the service is unknown other than i got under the vehicle befor driving off and wiggled things.
I did notice that the double ujoints do not have the zerg fittings but the front one does adjacent to the front differential.
I need to drain and fill the diffs and transfer case which is weeping fluid.
Vehicle has 82k miles and doesn't appear to have been used off road just in the city by a mom or something.
Great fun to drive thank goodness for my decision's proximity to the gas price drop.

Get those u-joints and the centering ball kit replaced ASAP.
