Default Help, I'm stranded...

I am the Proud...... was proud... owner of a 2000 rover hse.
I have spent over 7000$ on it in the last year.
I just had it in the dealer for a 60,000 mile service, rear brakes and the following.
I have about 65k on the car.
Last year on my last vacation with my wife and 2 girls we broke down.. front differential.
guy said it was bone dry with no visible leaks.
bought the car 15 months earlier preowned from the dealer with a 12 month bumper to bumber... so the warranty was up.
before I took that trip I had the car in and told them to check all the fluids etc..
anyway they took no responsibility.
Had a repair shop replace the diff in vermont... too far from a dealer but he does all the work for the local land rover driving school in manchester vt.
anyway.. he said I still needed an abs sensor in the front right..
I waited until last week knowing that I was taking the car on another family vacation..
They replaced the sensor and then I started having some problems with the brakes pulsating without reason.
they, after much time said it was a front right cv joint missing teeth.
Oh yeah.. they also had replaced the head gasket... it was leaking as well.
They couldn't get the cv joint fixed in time said it would be fine to take on the trip.
Anyway, right now I am typing this from a rinky dink hotel in rural nc. because the car just died.
ok.. the facts.. just had the dealer do 60,000 mile service...
they repaced the headgasket,
rear brakes
front right abs sensor
and didn't fix the front cv joint.
also i chose not to fix some sort of flap with the heat that caused one side of the car to blow cold air while the other was hot... they said that they would have to take apart the dash and it would cost 1800$ to fix.. I said forget it I'll deal with being cold while my wife is hot.
So about 40 miles back all of a sudden the abs light went on, the tc light went on, the spedometer and rmp guage all went to 0..., and the screen on the hvac control went blank.
I was in the middle of nowhere and the car seemed to keep running fine, so I kept driving....
right at the top of the next exit 40 miles later.. the car started to die...
The readout was saying... traction failure, airbag failure, gearbox failure... among other things propobly.. that I didn't see as I was trying to negotiate the car off the ramp... the car was barely running and I just made it into this hotel parking lot.
I guess I am going to have to tow it to a dealer tomorrow.. closest one is Greensboro NC. about 200 miles away.....
Any Ideas? Could the dealer have neglected something again? I am so fed up I can barely contain myself.
Please someone give me some ideas.... soon..
Thank you so much.

Jeez!--- I empathize with your situation, but all of those failure items are.....quite normal...believe it or not. Okay-- what you have going on is a alternator crapping out on ya. By continuing to drive you ran it down until the battery did not have enough juice to run the vehicle....and all the warning lights were going off like a Christmas tree as the various systems fell below normal operating voltage. They are VERY hungry--- electrically speaking. Now-- when they put in a new alternator, make sure the output in amps matches between the one they are removing, and the one they are putting in. The Bosch re-built units seem to be hit-n-miss in their quality, and we have had to put in three units before we had one that was stable and reliable. AND-- the mainfuse block is another problem on your model.Read my comments at http://www.eurotekapg.com/bde.htmlregarding the situation. If you do notcorrect this (assuming you have the signs of a cracked fuse block I mention there) then you are setting yourself up for another on road disaster.

Finally--- make sure you tell them to first charge the new battery (an absolute full-charge) with a external battery charger before firing up the engine. On these vehicles--- if you just fire up the engine, and rely on the alternator output to charge the battery--- the new alternator can fail !!!!

Hope this helps.

Ya know ---- I would first try and find a local mechanic that was able and willing to put an alternator and new battery in ---before I would pony up the dough to have it towed to a "Stealership" 200 miles away.

regards,

Geoman

hey my range rover is doing the exact same thing as yours. my speedometer and everything does not work(elecrically) and all the lights on my dash are lit up and wont turn off so i had to install a kill switch. land rover told the problem was the bcu. oh yeah. my car is doing the exact same thing with the air. except my side blows out hot and the passanger blows out cold. if you ever get an answer about what is wrong tell me.
