HELP! Totally Locked out of 2003 DII because of dead battery! key wont work, AAA cant break into it
Cant find a previous forum for this one.. So this is the situation:
Left headlights on, truck is totally dead
Because locks are clearly electronically actuated, neither the keyfob, or the good old fashioned key is capable of unlocking the truck.
I cant open the hood to jump it, because I cant pop it from inside..
So I called AAA, and those idiots cannot get into it with any of their toys (prying, lock lifting). I said thanks and asked them what I pay them for.
How the hell can I open my hood / get into the truck?? Thanks for taking the time to read this, hopefully I can get myself home from work, and avoid a stack of parking tickets that will start accumulating tonight!

You need to go thru the grill from either the front or from underneigh to get to the hood release cable with a pair of pliars.
Forgive me for being ignorant here, as my Disco does not have auto locking, but I have several other brand vehicles with key-fob locking of door locks, and on each and every one I can unlock the vehicle with the key, even with a dead battery (I have them from time to time). Shouldn't the disco be the same? I mean, the electric locking should allow a mechanical over-ride from the key, shouldn't it? Regardless of battery? After all, what if your key fob battery went dead? This has happened to me also. Perhaps your key is not the original and was cut inaccurately. It works the ignition but not the doors. If that is the case, you can have a locksmith come out and make a key on the spot for the doors and unlock your vehicle. There are usually mobile locksmiths in most medium size towns. This is a very common service for a locksmith. It is not very expensive. Did you try your key in every lock, including the rear tailgate door? You could crawl in thru there, if you can open it.
I'm having the same problem, same year, same make, wife left the lights on, dead battery, FOB does light up, but it doesn't unlock the doors. AAA couldn't get in but my mechanic was able to. I installed a brand new battery about two months ago and mechanic just tested it,and it's holding enough amps that it should turn over, but nothing. Up until the dead battery, we've never had any trouble with the truck starting right up. According to my mechanic:
-Truck doesn't turn over at all
-power door lock on dash does not work (will not lock and unlock)
-key fob led does light up when pressed, but will not lock or unlock doors
it sounds electrical, but not sure where to start. I need help!!! (looking at disco mike...)

If all you did was the normal lock then use the key in the door.
With super lock engaged you need to get power to the truck, crawl under it and using strip away the coating to the battery cable that goes to the starter.
You can then use jumper cables and get power to the truck.
Your other option is to remove the drivers headlight from the outside, you will need to pry it out, it will break.
Then you can cut the hood release cable and pull it to open the hood, charge the battery and the truck can be opened.
Once the battery goes dead, you are out of luck and the only option is to break a window, not the best choice, or get a hot cable to the starter, just be very careful that all you contact with is the positive cable at the starter.
