pulled on hood release and cable broke on 97 discovery. Any ideas how to get hood open easily?

 

reaching in through the top front of the grill, drivers side just over from the center about 8 inches from the headlight, I can grab the hood release cable and when I pull on it, it moves the lever to open the hood. Other option would be to rip the outside housing from the latch end and pull on the inner wire. Just some ideas.

Looks like going in from the bottom, there are lots of stuff in the way, and a metal covering that would keep from using a screwdriver or ?? from the grill side right at the latch.

Cable goes just behind the grill, then behind the drivers headlight, then inside the engine compartment past fender to inside the truck.
