Manged to wipe out my drivers side mirror unit on our gate

Was going to change myself - anyone able to help?

looking at inside of car, it would seem I need to take whole door panel off - is this right?

Any help would be great!

On the D2 it's easy peasy, you just take off the triangular plastic at the front of the door. However, by past experience of my 2009 RRS it's more complex, you had to remove the whole damned door card first to access the piece of plastic and then undo the mirror nuts. Probably similar for the Freelander.
