knock or ticking sound at higher RPM
Just bough an 03 Disco, 70,000mi. I know, should have checked for maintenence history and such but it was an impulse buy, loved the truck and had to have it.
Test drove it and thought the exhaust might have a leak, orthought Disco's just sounded that way. Now second guessing. There isa loud tick or knock when excellerating, sounds like it's comming from under the truck. Looked at the exhaust and it appears to be in great shape, no visible corrosion or holes. Is it an exhaust leak I am hearing or possibly something else? Checked the oil and is is full. Last two tanks of gas have been 93 octane.
Thanks for any advice you can give.

It is not ignition. On 93 octane neither of the knock sensors are going to be unhappy.
You are dealing with either exhaust of oil pressure and internal issues. Impulse buying doesn't pay, especially on an 03.
Call the dealer and see if you vin fits into the possible list of bad engine. Consider doing an engine flush then have all 4 of your oil pressures ranges checked to see what is going on.

Thanks for the tips. I actually found a very knowledgeable independantmechanic today who came highly reccomended. And, he has an 03 disco of his own. He thinks it might be lifters, but did not test drive it so has not heard what i am hearing. He is going to do an oil change (he reccomends mobile1 synthetic) and test drive it tomorrow so we will see what he says. I'm hoping it's an exhaust issue - that sounds like a cheaper fix. Also, it is leaking oil, but from what I have been reading, that's not uncommon with these trucks.
Lifters just don't fail and when they do it is only a couyple at most. Flush the engine, do an oil change and then get your 4 oil pressure readings done. Don't go throwing any parts at it till you have a better idea what is going on.
