Default Lost Keys, any ideas??

Hi, my wife and I have a 2003 Freelander. Somehow we lost the keys to the Freelander, we have no way to start it, move it, etc. I had it towed to the dealer (that was dumb, I should have known better and researched it more before doing that) where they quoted me a price of over $1000.00 to replace the key. That just seems insane. But it has to do with security codes, coding the key, etc...is this REALLY the only way to replace a Freelander key??? Or is there some other way....any advice would be so appreciated!

They must think they have you over a barrel. One year ago I bought a new key for my 2000 RR to prevent what happened to you. Land Rover Alexandria charged $16.07 for the key, $279.41 for the Remote Fob and 70 cents for the roll pin to set the key to the Fob. They offered to charge one hour shop labor to sync the key to my truck - I did this myself in minutes.
I suggest you call at least another dealer and get a "blind" quote for these items. I'll bet that you could have a dealer mail you these items to your house. All you should have to provide them is a fax (or email) of your title and drivers license.

Most likely a thread exists here that will tell you how to sync your new key fob to your car.
