The noise, which sounds like a metal "Whining", occurs while moving. Accelerating eliminates the sound, and braking eliminates the sound. I can start and stop the sound by applying pressure to the accelerator pedal and slightly accelerating. I was thinking it might be a axle joint somewhere. HELP.

 

What year and how many miles? Give us some help if you are looking for a worth while responce.

 

The Disco II has 135,000 miles and it is a 2001.

 

When was the last time you changed or topped of your t/case and diff's?

 

The fluids were topped off recently, but this noise has been happening for a very long time. I have had a number of shops try to resolve it, but none have. I have always taken very good care of the vehicle. The noise drives my family and me nuts. I suspect it was coming from the u-joints/tranny when transferring from "coasting" to "accelerating" on the road. I asked the shops to make sure everything was lubed, but still have the noise. Help.
