Default LR Newbie

So I just purchased my first Land Rover. Its a 95 Discovery with 138k, 2" OME with Bilstiens an ARB front and the rest is stock. Its in great condition as far as Im concerned. Runs smooth, shifts smooth and the interior is in good condition.

Didnt come with a manual so I have a few questions that Id like to ask the forum users ...

1. What kind of oil does this thing take?

2. Should I be putting a high octane in the fuel tank rather than 87?

Im sure Ill have more very soon...

I run 20w-50 in mine, cause it has a leaky main seal. You should use 92 octane if you can find it. Try doing some searches, both these questions are thoroughly discussed in numerous posts. I also moved from Jeeps to my Disco. Hang in there.

Default they like specifics, and do your reading

the boards are really helpful, but you're not gonna get a lot of answers if you asking about things that can be found already by searching. Always use high octane, and for oil weight, it really depends. You'll get a hundred different opinions. I would give them a read, see what suits your situation (i.e. does it need pressure early, or when running hot, etc.) and use what you think is right. One guy will tell you one weight is the thing, another will tell you that weight is totally wrong. The main thing is: pay attention, and take care of the truck. They're like prom queens: they need a lot of attention, but reward you for it in the end. Honestly, I'm on my second, and it's been a ride. The thing that has most encouraged me is the sign of of (I think it might be Rover Mike, or one of the other great regular posters): "Don't give up. It's only a machine."

FWIW the manual says use an octane rating of 90 or 92.
I've seen no difference between using 89 or 93 octane in both my '95 and '97 Discos.
I expect the computer has no problems adjusting the timing to suit whichever you chose.
