I own a 2013 LR4. Let me just go on the record here and say to Land Rover.. I want my dipstick back! Anyone else not trust your electronic oil level indicater? I’m not a fan. Maybe I’m just old skool but I like getting my hands dirty and seeing where the oil level is, and what color the oil is when I check it. So many things can go wrong when technology fails. Anyone else care to discuss?

 

I had the same problem on a 2012 BMW X5 turbodiesel and now on the LR4. What was Marketing and/or Engineering thinking? I now have the added problem of having a level indicator that says ‘Not Available’ and showing an oil level at absolute minimum after an oil change with 8 quarts per requirement. A guy from another thread had the same problem and he ended up putting 12 quarts in his with no oil level change. And Yes I know about the ‘wait for 10 minutes’ only it hasn’t changed after a day of driving.

So the short answer - I hate not having a dipstick. It’s a bonehead design decision on the part of Landrover.
