Default NEED HELP, at dealer potentially buying LR3

Issues:

1. You have to hold the shifter back in D for it to stay in gear. Transmission seems good. Had the guy hold it while I took it on the highway, seems to shift great.

2. "Suspension Fault," normal height only is on.

3. Rear wiper doesn't work. Only loud buzzing when try to turn on. Almost sounds like the compressor running or something.

4. Gas door doesn't latch.

Positives:

1. No wobble or noise at 80 mph.
2. No noise when turning sharp in a circle left or right, in high and low.
3. Seems to shift gears fine aside from having to hold the shifter back to stay in D.
4. AC and heated seats good.
5. All electrical good.
6. CV boots look very clean, no rips.
7. No sludge in oil cap under the hood.
8. Zero rust.

2006 lr3, has 80k. They're asking $12,900.

Need help/input FAST please!!!

IMO for $12.6K with those faults just walk away.

How many previous owners? Is that mileage kosher? so check it out. Run the terrain select through the full spectrum with an OBD2 code reader plugged in. Why is the gearbox needing to be held in D, that could be nothing or very expensive to fix.

Alternatively get them to fix ALL the defects and throw in 3 to 6 months unconditional warranty. Also defo check the self analysing lights when switching on to pos 2 and take an OBD2 code reader with you when you go.

IMO I, as a dealer, wouldn't be offering a truck for sale with those defects.

They're asking 12.9k, not sure they expect to sell it for that.

As far as a reader, you mean ask them to throw in a code reader?

No, either borrow a code reader and take it with you or get them to download the codes in front of you but you need to know exactly what you are looking at with the code reader.

Thinking this evening, I hate to see people being ripped off by car dealers.

Bearing in mind one crucial factor, all car salesmen are NOT your friends no matter how many free coffees they give you. They get commission on the cars they sell. The LR3 you are interested in is one in millions available so don't be in a rush to part with your hard earned cash. The salesman probably took it in PX for another rubbish truck or new car. Get the history and registration, check with the previous owner why they offloaded it and whether it had those faults then. Check the cost of those repairs first and whether the dealer is prepared to fix them free. If the dealer is not an LR agent what does he/they know about them. Do you actually know much about LR's or LR3's, if not, take someone who does and if you aren't a good negotiator get someone to negotiate for you. LR's can be a minefield of problems/costs so tread very carefully. $12.9K sounds an awful lot of dosh for a truck riddled with faults which the salesman probably bought in for $6K to $7K. If they salesman doesn't want to run the codes legit or fix the problems for free and warranty the truck for 3-6 months unconditional there is something awry so walk away. No-one in their right mind sells any vehicle and admits it's riddled with faults and is selling it for top dollar. IMO do yourself a favor and look at some more LR3's before you make up your mind on which one.

The LR3 V8 is a heavy old gas guzzler so go carefully.
