Default Need to replace ECM/ECU

First off, is it called an ECM or and ECU? Are they two separate things? For some reason I can't get clarity on this... for now I'm gonna call it an ECM.

Here's what I'm seeing in my 2001 Disco 2... Getting a PA0332 Knock Sensor Voltage Low Bank 2 message and am pretty sure its because the ECM is damaged. The idiot before me pinned the #2 Knock sensor wire between the engine block and the water pump when he changed it and just left it there shorting to ground.

This I believe damaged the ECM because I still get the PA0332 even after I have replaced both the knock sensor and the wire (using as close as I could find same gauge coaxial cable)

I have tested the new wire for positive continuity back to the ECM from the sensor plug and there's no resistance or shorting to ground. Wire is fine.

I also am getting INCOMPLETE on three sensor monitors in the IM Readiness that I can't clear and suspect its related to internal failure in the ECM.

So... can I just pop in a used ECM from ebay ($40-$100), or does it need to be sent in and reprogrammed to a shop like ecmoutlet? They want like $650!

Thanks for any advice
