New member, no start electrical issue
Hi guys, my names Nick, I'm brand new to Land Rovers, and I have a problem I need help with. I recently bought a 95 Range Rover 4.0 se that had some issues. The PO had the fuse box replaced and apparently whoever was replacing it didn't disconnect the battery while doing so. This caused some sort of spark and after that it didn't start. He took the car to a shop and they poked around but instead of fixing it he sold it to me. All interior accessories work and according to the shops notes it would crank intermittently.
The notes are hard to read but it looks like one of the maxi fuses blew and a fuse on the becm blew. Both were replaced and when I looked around the engine bay and didn't see any burnt wires or any other bad fuses. But when I try to start the truck it wont click or anything, it does nothing. The notes also say there is no start signal or injector signal from the Becm.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys

I bought a '91 last week from a friend. Its having the same problem. I drove it around yesterday after getting a broken key removed from the tumbler. My friend who sold it to me then put the steering cover back on after we started it and ran it a few times. After putting the cover on, the truck started intermittently. Now it won't start at all and sometimes, no lights or dash indicators come on. Two different professionals said the same thing. When he reassembled th column cover, he hit a wire and something is grounding it out. I'll keep you posted. It will be fixed tomorrow.

Ok, I got mine fixed earlier today. What we did was we first tested the starter by starting it from under the hood. Once we determined the starter was good, we checked all the connections to the tumbler. They were good. What it was, we had keys made, and the locksmith cut the keys to the tumbler while it was loose. This explains why I was able to start it before we put the column back together. When we put it back together, he snapped the ignition/tumbler together. Now the key wasn't a good fit. When we put the key in, it turned, but wouldn't make a connection to turn over. We called the locksmith to come back and readjust the ignition/tumbler to the key. I think your tumbler is loose.
