New motor/old motor what to do ?
Ok as you now know my daughter bought a (as far as the free vin look-up goes)1999 Land Rover Range Rover 4dr Wgn 4.0 SE 108" WB. I have experience on every brand of Diesel and Gas truck on and off the road up to 1998 when I retired as a lead mechanic in the USA after 25 years.. I now know why we went to war with England.I have been an MCSE for the last 15 years and citified in all Microsoft, Novel, and Sun operating systems. So reading whacked out manuals is no problem. The many Land Rover manuals I have read refer to RH and LH side of the Vehicle and I have found that sometimes it depends on where you are standing and the copy-rite of the manual.(I spent a day reading 675 pages to find out it was Australian English) I have found that most interior parts are RH for passenger side and LH for drivers side ? Under the Bonnet or hood as we call it (the engine compartment) is backwards unless your talking about an interior feature that runs out to under the bonnet (hood). Can anyone take a few minutes to translate a few terms that keep poping up in the shop manuals. Boot = Trunk, Bonnet= Hood, Anti clock wise = counter clockwise, Skirt = Wheel well, Reverse = anything from remove it, to turn backwards and the direction other than the direction you would normally go. What does it mean to turn the key towards the front of the truck ?(That can be both clock wise inside the IGN switch or anti-clockwise in the door) Is the security code the same as the radio code ? Last but most important why does it just shut off, or not start when it wants to ? I cant find parts because there seems to be a split year in 1999. My coil is inline meaning 8 straight in one row -------- not two sets of 4 XX that come up every time I look for parts. I cant be sure I am getting the right part until I take the old one off. Is there anyone with US manuals posted for the early 99? I also could use a parts list for the early 99 so I can start to restore this RR and make street-able (Street-able in the US means able to get from one place to the other place without breaking down)
If you got this far Thank you If you are having the same problem let me know Two heads are better than one.
