Default Newby needs some advise

Hello all,

I'm new to the forum and looking to get my first Disco. I found this ad on CL and this vehicle is located locally so i'm going to try to go take a look at this weekend. Just wanted to get an opinion on what its actually worth and what i should be looking for during the test drive.

It seems a lot of the drive train has been rebuilt so if this is actually true this is a good sign imo. A/C works, electrical seems to work, and no rust and engine doesn't leak (hard to believe?). what are the other trouble spots to look for?

From what i've gathered this should be in the $5k range so is this guy just charging a premium for the badging of the XD?

RARE 1997 LAND ROVER DISCOVERY SERIES I XD OFF ROAD READY

Any help or insight is appreciated.

TIA

Spetz

Actually it seems pricey. I paid $1750 for a 97 runner at a dealer and fixed it up. Does not look as nice as that one. But several thousand buys a lot of parts. Starting with a metal radiator plug, that plastic one is waiting to break. "Special" for a 1997 is running and not overheating. Check our tech area for a list of things to look for, take your own OBDII scanner to plug in and check with. For that kind of money pop for a mechanic inspection. You can't get all your money out of mods or repairs.

I bought Base model 1997 SD last year for $2500. Which I thought was a steal, Be sure to check the power steering box, mine leaked like crazy, replaced it with a Maval unit for 300 bucks. Also, check the exhuast manifold for leaks. Just replaced my left manifold. Had a three inch crack on the back side. Other than that I love my truck. If you don't mind twisting a wrench on the weekend every few months you should enjoy you rover a lot. I also find it to be a good excuse to buy new tools!
