To AT or Not to AT - that is the question
For my 2004 D2 I have two sets of rims - 18" wrapped with all season tires and a set of 16" that are not wrapped at this time.
I want to set up the 16" as my wheels to use for fun. So wrap my 16"s with a set of AT's?
Here are my pros and cons:
AT's PROS-
Cost (most in my size are in the $120-175 range)
Highway comfort
Snow traction
Gas milage
AT's CONS-
Mud traction
Sidewall strength
Looks
AT's unknown-
????
The AT's that I have looked at (still undecided)
Falkin Wildpeak AT
Hankook Dyanpro ATM
General Grabber AT2
So do I go with an AT tire? Or should I just suck up the cost and move over to a MT and forgo the snow traction?

I like AT's but I've been surprised at how well a good set of MT's can do in the snow.
The question is how much wheeling do you do and does the terrian require a MT tires to be successful?

ArmyRover what ATs do u like?
As for terrain: I don't have enough experience to say. Anyone else know what's better here in Souther California?
To the OP,
It would help to have a signature with more specific info on your Disco. You mentioned Southern California. So, you are probably looking at a relatively more arid and dry conditions. More info on the following would be useful: (1) rolling terrain (steady gradient) or rock crawling type terrain? (2) type of rolling resistance (e.g., hard packed, gravel or sand).
Do you have CDL? This would be equally important as the decision between AT or MT tires.

Thanks for the suggestion ACG. I'll look into a signature. I use the mobile app version to visit the forum and it's very limited.
I live just south of Los Angeles. My 2004 Disco is stock as of right now. The 2004 came with the CDL, so yes I have that.
As I said before I have limited trail exposure, so to answer your trail terrain question all I can say is dry conditions as California is in a drought. Maybe someone else can speak to this question.
Snow is within a 5 hour drive, so I'm interested in snowy trails.
Do you have a preferred AT?
