Default Oil Change in my '00 Disco

Judging by the sticker in my 'new' Disco, it's about time for an oil change. Since this one was still made in the BMW days, I want to make sure I do it right. Should I take it to the Land Rover dealership, or am I okay taking it to a good oil change place or my local mechanic? The LR dealership is around 100 miles from here, but I'd hate to have a problem resulting from an off-brand oil filter. Also, what kind of oil would you recomend? I was thinking of maybe going with a tri-synthetic.

Depends if the warranty is still running, if it is then a trip to Land Rover would be required.
If not, then any garage with computer equipment would be okay. worth doing a check on the engine with the computer during the oil change.

Well, since we found out that Land Rover warranties on non-transferrable here in the states, I'll just take it someplace local. This is my first truly 'foreign' car, and I've heard horror stories from people using non-OEM oil filters. Of course, that was with SAAB, so it's a different beast altogether.

SAAB, owned by erh.. General Motors.. Say no more..

I have had no problems with the oil filters I have fitted todate, and I have not bought them from Land Rover, i tend to buy my bits and peices from www.paddockspares.com though I do have other companies I get bits from. Mind you, I think the ones I get, even though unbranded are still made by the manufacturer that supplies Land Rover, just a lot cheaper without the Land Rover brand on it.

If your worried about the filter, could ring and see if your Land Rover Dealer will post you one or two, since your not so close.
