Default One for the Disco II experts

Over the past few months, various silly little problems which I am starting to think are related. Latest has been no starting. Ignition lights etc fine, starter turns over but engine does not fire. I have had this DII for 10 years and kinda "know it". It has always fired up first time. It was intermittent so I lived with it for a couple of weeks but then it started to be more frequent. Finally got it to a shop who couldnt find it and then called to say they had found the problem and installed a new fuel pump. Fired up OK but then the problem is back again the next day.

Now I have another new issue. Can't open the rear door. Lock on dash and key seem to trigger something. I can hear a click but the lock doesn't open.

I have discovered, and it could be a fluke, that when the car won't start, I put it into "drive" and turn the ignition key. Most times, when I then turn off, remove the key and try to start again she fires up. Other times, I move the shift into neutral and then back to park and she starts.

So I'm starting to think this is a computer issue. Has anyone ever come across this type of thing before?

PS, some of the door locks don't actuate either. This has been an issue for some time. Wondering whether its all part of one issue.

Any insights welcome.
Thanks
Mike

you need to post this in the correct section.

as for your problems, you need to get the back panel off the rear door the actuator is still working but has become disconnected from the lock mechanism. is the truck turning off after being warm? or just won't start even when its cold?

What year D2? How many miles?
Sounds like you may have a failing crank position sensor. About a $65 part and half hour to replace. Maybe a neutral safety switch, but sounds more like a CPS. As for the door locks, it's common for the actuators to fail. Have you had a alternator/battery load test done? the electronics in a D2 can be fussy if the voltage isn't 13.8-14.4 volts.

thanks Ed and Eric. I re-posted to DII section.

Ive been reading through the archives and am starting to think and hope crank sensor. Next time, I;m going to pay attention to service soon light to see if it stays on when i'm cranking. If it does, from the posts ive read, looks like its the sensor.

I kinda love my mechanic but I'm wondering if he rushed to put on a new fule pump at $500 plus 2 hours!

Thanks again

turns off fine when warm. All these irritating problems are perhaps a function of old age! Door locks started to fail one by one over the last couple of years. Rear door just yesterday so I have to climb over the back seat to get my stuff! Fun and games.
I will post next time it wont start and let you know about check engine light.
