OK, now I am starting to be concerned about this mechanics technical ability.
A coolant leak when tested properly should show up in 5 minutes or so.
Has he actually done a coolant pressure test, how about a chemical block test.

I trust the guy he knows what he is doing. I am not sure if he ran those yet. But he is trying to run a business and i am getting him to fix it for free. I know there is a leak and he knows it too. He is wondering why there wasn't one when he looked. he said something about running a pressure test this morning. I have to go to work but will be calling him. i'll let yall know what happens.

That would be the first thing a mechanic would do to track down an unseen leak.
Call him and ask him to do it. You can't just loose that much coolant and not find the leak.

you were right in your first post. He says its the manifold. he knows a guy at the land rover dealership that hooks him up. He is gonna get it fixed for me. and i bought a jug of dexcool.

well i am getting new valve covers, new gaskets and new thermostat, for free. i am happy, but missing my rover.
