Default Overheating Issues

Long time reader, newest member. I have a 2000 Land Rover Discovery 2 with the 4.0L V8 without secondary air (162K). While driving down the road I lost all heat, found a leak from my timing cover gasket. I replaced gasket, timing chain and gears, front seal, thermostat, water pump and hoses and belt. Once I completed repairs there were no leaks and vehicle was running good. I noticed the temp above normal and found that the secondary electric fan seized. Replaced electric fan and checked operation, I am having continued overheating issues once the vehicle has been driven for a short period of time or under a load (uphill). I have elevated the front end and ran at idle for a hour to purge system further, no overheating until I ran for another half hour then uphill. I have no leaks and the fans are working good. I ordered all the parts from Atlantic British in NY and Dave told me that they have had no problems with thermostats even though I just read on Land Rover Forums that there are recalls on OE thermostats. I never had any overheating issues until the leak, I will be flushing the radiator this weekend. Are there any other areas that I can investigate to remedy this issue? Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Shawn

Thumbs up

I'm not sure whether you've had your radiator checked or possibly even replaced? But I had a similar issue about 2 years ago with my 04 RR-HSE. Upon taking it for long drives on the road/freeway, I would get an indicator on my odometer area that read "Transmission Overheating". I notice the radiator had a minor leak towards the top corner, possibly caused by a rock? I think what happen was, there wasn't enough coolant circulating around the engine and the other parts, which was causing my Transmission to overheat. I eventually purchased a new radiator from some European shop out in Europe, because everyone out here in the States wanted about 3 times as much for it. With the help of my brother in law, we replaced it and the problem went away. Check that first though, before having anything else done on it, if you haven't done so yet. Good luck. Keep on Rovin.

I'm waiting for my new radiator from Atlantic British, I have no leaks and the coolant level remains on full cold every morning. I am now having M & S lights blinking on dash with the trans stuck in limp mode. Just replaced the bad battery and that didn't help, I hope that Disco Mike gets a hold of me so I can get some advice on where to look for these new problems. Thanks for the reply.
