Default Question on lift & tires what to expect

Ok, I’ve owned Jeeps and I own a Disco 2 now which I love. Excuse my ignorance on this issue.

MY QUESTION:

With a 2” lift, do tires make a different in how high the vehicle sits once it has been lifted or merely just cover up the wheel well area?

I have a 2” Lift now and searching for tires. There are 26” highway tires on there now.

I took it by a tire shop and they told me going to a 255/70//18 which is a 32” tire would give the vehicle hardly any noticeable lift from a 26” tire to… maybe a 1/2” left since it lifted already.

I was always under the impression tires do lift a vehicle. I expected going from a 26” tire to a 32” tire on a 2” lift would give at least a 1” to 1.5” extra lift. Am I wrong?

Are you sure your tires are only 26”? If so , going from 26 to 32” should give you another 3” of clearance (6” diameter difference will add 3” above and below the axle). IMO 32’s are just right for a 2” lift.

They were 225/50/18 HT which is a little over 26”. I ended up going with a 265/65/18 AT tire which is a little over 30”.

Amazingly I had a test fit of a 295/70/18 and it fit with minimal running on the lower plastic front rear rocker which I could have cut, but I opted to go with a more practical tire due to gears and not to push the engine too much.
