Default Range Rover B&W Transfer Box Viscous Coupling

Hi,

I'm new here. Long time Landie owner, formerly a 1959 88' SII, 1971 88' SIIA, 1981 2Dr Range Rover 'In Vogue', current stable1979 109" 3/4 ton SIII pick-up undergoing an exhaustive frame up restortation and my daily driver and source of this query, a 1994 LWb 4.2L Range Rover @130K miles.

My transfer case, borg-warner, is in need of a new viscous coupling. The prices I have sourced are all over the mapPN RTC6044, $600-1200.00. I've e-mailed car cannibal about a used one. But in my quest I have a feeling that a number of different auto makes used this box, a BW 4462 I think, and if I can find a domestic counterpart that uses the same box a good new part might be found for hundreds of dollars less. Does anyone know of other makes using the borg 4462 box as found in the 90-94 r.rovers, and I think 95-02 disco's? Alternatively, a fairly proced parts source? rebuild kit as they seem to turn up overhauled in the UK.

Does anyone have a x-ref list for rover parts that turn up on doemstic brands?

Thanks in advance and I look forward to adding to my knowledge of the type and when able, share some.

Regards,

Scott

Hi,

Thanks for the referal. I'm not keen to change the box as I have already done the shaft and chain and the link you supplied just indicates a used box, which will likely need the same pricey parts, including a viscous coupling.etc.etc.
