Default Rear axel replacement

So I ended up in a situation where the rear diff broke and had to limp home with only front wheel drive. I have a spare parts truck and now I'm looking for instructions oh how to swap rear axels...

Is it easy? Is there any special considerations I need to think about?? I believe that the axels are the same... both are from a 2002 LR D2. The parts one is an SE7, but I don't think that is an issue. The parts truck has lower mileage and newly maintained axel compared to the one I have on mine. Also, all the parts truck's brakes are brand new (only 150 miles) so I won't have to swap them... save time

Really would appreciate any input on how best to proceed. Thank you very much.

Cheers!!

Simple swap. You will prolly want a new o ring for hub . Pop up the dimple in the stake nut before you take it off. You'll have to remove brake cal bracket , to get disc out of the way , and the 4 bolts in back of hub. Swap

Can you pull the hub and axle in one piece like the front?

I'm not sure I'm following... you mean pull the hubs and remove the differential and leave the housing? The reason I thought it would be easier is because the new axel has new rotors and brakes all around and just had maintenance done, so should be good.

From the Rave manual, it doesn't give axel removal instructions. Just diff removal and hub removal. From what I can see... it is:

Driveshaft off
Detach linkage
Detach shocks
Detach callipers
Detach wiring (ABS)
Release springs

I would welcome any guidance... thanks.

Not sure what else...

Yeah, no need as far as I can tell to pull the hubs or anything. The RAVE should be pretty straight forward on swapping the axle assembly.
Why are you removing the calipers though?

BTW, this is more DII forums specific, rather than general tech.

It's an easy peasy swap. Quicker to swap the whole axle than the diff only. The only messy bit is setting up the SLS if you have air suspension.

(Heck, I just been through this axle swap game less than 24 hours ago on a Pajero website ................. deja vu)

OffroadFrance, thanks... I'll post some pics from my adventure here soon. Hope that it goes smooth. I don't have SLS so one less complication to worry about. Quick question n- do you have the link on Pajero's site?

Cheers!

Sure do Clint, probably one of the best tech sites for Pajero's.
