Default rear door window trims

i have just bought a new rr 2011 plate. my issue is the rear window door trims. they have blistered. a common fault i hear. i have purchased a new pair and just wanted to know is it safe to just leaver them off and knock on the new ones. dont want to break the window. these are the trims that go down each side of the window.

maybe you'd have got some responses if you'd posted in a range rover section of the forum.
