Default Reliability of Land Rover LR3?

My husband is a car salesman and they just got in a 2006 land rover lr3 with approximately 70,000 miles in and offered it to me fr $14,000. I would like to know people's true reccomedations. I realize repairs are more expensive but from experience how often are they in the shop? I have a 2006 ford fusion right now and I really want to get something that would be good for us starting a family soon. Resources would help. I have to convince my husband that this is a good idea.

posts like yours come up quite often. They are reliable trucks but the cost of maintenance is high. The easy answer I can give you is take it to a Land Rover dealership and tell them to inspect it. Price is around ~$290. You will then have a very accurate picture of what you're getting. If one or more differentials is going bad then take $4000 (per diff) off your "husband's" price right there. If lower control arms up front are bad, take $1200 off. Etc. Etc. If the (husband's) dealership offers to fix it tell them to pay LAND ROVER to do the repairs, OR a land rover indy shop you know and trust. If they hem and haw or bla bla bla about taking a hit or that you're offering them wholesale prices just remind them that they bought the damn thing (or accepted it as a trade-in). For $14,000 that thing had better be in great shape.

Find out where the vehicle came from and call everyone who might have service records. If you're lucky then you got one that only went to the dealer for work and paid for everything to be fixed when it broke. I paid less for an 06 with the same amount of miles and it came with 100% complete service records for the 8 years the prior owner had it.

$14,000 seems high, but that is low mileage.

Definitely have an inspection by someone that knows what they are doing with LR3, and maybe even has one or two at the shop right now.

Also, I can pretty much bet that the dealership didn't give more than about $8000 for the vehicle.... so I'd get the price down a LOT, especially considering they are trying to sell it to an employee.

Bought my 06 LR3 with 79K for less than that. If it checks out and they come off the price some and you're willing to accept that they are more expensive to maintain then go ahead and pull the trigger.

Book values are probably around $14 or a little more but nobody pays book.
